Charm Spirit wins Prix Djebel (Gr3) in France

The Prix Djebel (Gr3), the principal 2000 Guineas trial in France, was won by Charm Spirit, a son of Invincible Spirit. HH Sheikh Adbullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani's 3yo colt held on in a tight finish to beat Kiraam, the winner of the Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte (Gr2), and this year's Listed winner Imperiator.

Charm Spirit's trainer Freddy Head said afterwards, "We are pleased with his race. He won and he has plenty of improvement in him. For the future, we will wait and see, our first idea had been to go to Newmarket for the 2000 Guineas and we will discuss his plans with his connections. I am sure he is a colt who will go further, but he does have a lot of speed. I think he will be better suited to the straight mile at Newmarket than to Longchamp’s mile course. He will come on a lot for this race."
Charm Spirit won an exciting renewal of the Prix Djebel

Charm Spirit just edged out Kiram in a blanket finish to the Prix Djebel at Maisons-Laffitte.

Kiram was sent off favourite on the PMU having won his final three races as a two-year-old for Jean-Claude Rouget and a gap opened up beautifully for Christophe Soumillon on the rail.

However, the Freddy Head-trained Invincible Spirit colt Charm Spirit brought the best juvenile form to the table, having finished a two-length third to Karakontie in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere last season, and he made his challenge down the middle of the track.

Bookrunner and Imperiator were also involved in the finish and less than a length separated the first four, with Charm Spirit taking top honours by a short head.
