Charm Spirit wins Prix Paul de Moussac (Gr3)

After his performance in the Guineas (Gr1) in Newmarket, Charm Spirit was the logical favourite for the Prix Paul de Moussac (Gr3), which was run at Chantilly, France, 7 June 2014, even though he was giving four kilos to his rivals.

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s colt did not disappoint his supporters and took the lead early on in the race. Chameur (Shirocco) and then Salai (Myboycharlie) tried to challenge him in the straight, but under the able riding of jockeyOlivier Peslier, Charm Spirit changed legs and kicked clear.

Trainer Freddy Head explained: "He confirmed what I have always thought about him, that he is a very good horse. But I still don’t know what distance he is best over. Olivier Peslier rode a very good race by going in front, which helped the horse. He does not have a strong turn of foot and I wonder if he would be better over a shorter distance, with a stronger pace where he could be held up. It is a true mixture of his sire and dam, between stamina and speed. I think we will go for the Prix Jean Prat, and we will see afterwards ... We could run him in the Prix Maurice de Gheest ... I think he still needs to progress physically. He will be even better when he strengthens up."
